Hi all. Here is the first class announcement via the course blog, and it's to clarify what you need to do at the end of signing up to the social software sites for class participation. I asked for you to email us with the addresses for the feeds of your accounts on various sites, but of course not all the sites have rss/atom feeds. Here is a more detailed version to help clarify what I'd like, illustrated with examples from my own accounts:
- del.icio.us: feed for your bookmarks
- [http://del.icio.us/rss/viller]
- flickr: feed for your photos
- [http://api.flickr.com/services/feeds/photos_public.gne?id=86488898@N00&lang=en-us&format=rss_200]
- and feed for comments on your photos [http://api.flickr.com/services/feeds/activity.gne?user_id=86488898@N00&lang=en-us&format=rss_200]
- last.fm: feed from your profile page (I think XML is the best option)
- twitter: feed from your profile page
- [http://twitter.com/statuses/user_timeline/778607.rss]
- facebook: no feed, please join the comp3505 facebook group
- [http://uqedu.facebook.com/group.php?gid=6455473920]
- Google Calendar: public feed (go to 'Manage Calendars' and then 'Calendar details' to get the link)
- Blogger: just sign up once you receive the invitation and then you'll be added as an author to this blog.

Hi stephen,
Could I find out how do I start a bookmark, picture and profile feed if I currently do not own one?I know facebook and calander is quite straight forward.
I just came back to Brisbane on friday night from Singapore due to insufficient seats on flights the previous week, sorry to miss the 1st lecture..see ya at the tutorials next week then.
Best Regards,

Hey! I found with Flickr I had problems when using user_id in the rss feed title. So, for mine I used the auto-generated rss feed :
http://www.flickr.com/services/feeds/photos_public.gne?id=10624973@N07&lang=Array[intl_lang]&format=rss_200
With my details, obviously. changing id to user_id gives me everyone's photos, instead of just my own.
stupid thing cutting stuff off.
http://www.flickr.com/services/feeds/photos_public.gne
?id=10624973@N07&
lang=Array[intl_lang]
&format=rss_200
Without the breaks.
@lip: Once you have created an account with del.icio.us, flickr, etc. (see the get connected sheet on the course web site), you should be able to find links to the feed for each site (hint: look for the orange RSS icons, usually at the bottom of the page. In firefox you will get an orange 'radar' icon in the address bar for any page with a feed. Clicking on this will usually let you know what the feed address is, as well as start subscribing to it). If you are still having problems, just ask in the tutorial.
@Anthony: I'm a bit surprised that you couldn't just paste in your userid instead, but in any case I was only giving my feeds as an example so you could see what they should look like. Thanks for clarifying this.
